What's New for 1997

Annuals Vegetables :

Wave Petunias - Purple and Pink. Long and vigorous, these petunias never need pinching and are a knockout for hanging baskets. Low growing, they also make a good groundcover. Available as plants on our summer annuals tables.

Melampodium - Plants are covered with dainty 11/2" yellow, daisy-type blooms. Heat and sunloving, this one will blossom until frost. Available as plants with our specialty annuals.

Peppers - We carry a wide selection of seeds, ranging from Chocolate Beauty Bell to the very hot Scotch Bonnet. Sow indoors now!

Lettuce - How about 25 different seed choices ranging from a Cimmaron Romaine to Brunia, a red oakleaf variety? Also lots of spicy mesclun varieties!

Perennials :

Achillea x Summerwine - A deep wine red Yarrow, 24"-30", blooms in July-Aug. Great color for bouquets.

Amsonia hubrectii - Cutleaf Blue Stars. Striking finely-dissected foliage, 24"-36", blooms in May with the palest of blue flowers. Excellent golden fall color.

Clematis recta Purpurea - A non-climbing clematis, 24" tall with small white flowers that bloom in July. Unique foliage with a dewy purple cast.

Geum rivale - Chocolate Root. Bell-shaped, nodding, reddish-purple flowers bloom in June-July. 12"-18" tall, excellent choice for cool, wet, partially shaded areas. Large-leafed attractive foliage.

Salvia verticillata Purple Rain - Long arching stems with purple buds opening to smoky purple flowers. 18-24" tall. Extremely long blooming.

Seeds Bulbs Herbs :

Canna Pretoria - A daring new canna with yellow and green striped foliage, topped off by a brilliant melon orange bloom. Four feet tall. Not for the weak at heart ! Available as rhizomes now.

Alocasia macrorrhiza - Upright Elephant Ears. Striking upright foliage with a strong midrib. Grown for its huge, tropical leaves. Start early to reach full height of 6’. Best in partial shade. Tubers available now. These sell out quickly.

Siam Queen Thai Basil - 1997 All American Award Winner. Delicious sweet and spicy flavor. Very aromatic leaves with a licorice basil aroma Seeds available now; plants available in late-April.

Ipomoea tricolor Flying Saucers Morning Glory - Unique white blossoms touched with a faint hint of sky blue. Available in seed packets.

Lemon Grass - A wonderful lemon-scented grass used for tea and in Asian cooking.

Roses Vines :

Aristolochia durior - Dutchman’s Pipe. A shade- loving vine, grows to 30’. Large heart-shaped leaves with brownish yellow flowers resembling a pipe.

Campsis radicans Mme Galen - A salmon orange variety of the standard red Trumpet Vine

Spice Twice - The 1997Jackson & Perkins Rose of the Year. A hybrid tea with coral buds which open to a spicy coral orange with a cream reverse.

Scentimental - A burgundy-red swirled with white rose, where no two flowers are the same. Strong spicy fragrance, vigorous and disease resistant.

Timeless - A hybrid tea rose with pointed buds of deep pink opening to rose red blooms. Strong, upright stems for cutting. Disease resistant.

The Reeve - A David Austin English Rose. Large globular deep dusky pink bloom on dark foliage. Extremely rich old rose fragrance. Four feet tall with arching canes.
